These views were taken from the footbridge over the freight avoiding lines at York. This view shows the new turntable which was installed when the turning triangle was removed prior to the construction of the new control centre.
This is a very rough looking class 56 belonging to British American Railway Services. It has been in store until recently and no money has been spent on its external condition since that time by the look of it. By the amount of black smoke it threw across the local area, nothing much has been done to the engine either. The train is a Tees side to Cardiff loaded scrap metal train. Hope it got there. The loco number is 56 103.
Wheels (obviously) outside Freightliner's wagon repair facility alongside the line.
DRS have tried to bring a bit more style back into its locomotive designs with the new class 68 locos. I found 68002 standing at York Station in the spot where we usually find two 1957 vintage class 20s. 68002 is named INTREPID. 68002 stands alongside the snow plough in York station. The loco stands next to the new signalling centre.
The A4 'Sir Nigel Gresley' is now in the workshop at NRM for its ten year boiler overhaul. This is it... admittedly it doesn't look much like it but I am assured that it really is 60007. And one of her predecessors from the East Coast Main line, the Stirling single complete with its new tender.
