Doncaster 1988.

We travel to the East Coast Main Line for this set of images taken in 1988.

Two class 31s head a tank train waiting to go south from the down sidings at the back of the station. 

More class 56s with southbound coal empties.

 I think this is one of the better looking Pacer designs (set against little competition it must be said) and the addition of the third car made it a useful unit which is still in use today. What the ride is like is another matter.

A Class 31 takes a short rake of cement tanks on the up main line through the station.

  1. Ah, the good old days when locomotives were locomotives and had proper colour schemes... Nostalga isn't what it used to be...

    I think the 143's looks are improved by the centre carriage. I don't know why bue our eyes seem to perfer an odd number of carriages to an even.

    I personally have a soft spot for 142's, but that may be because I don't have to ride on them,
