28 years apart.....

Image
Back to 1987 and the two south facing bays at York station. Both are in use at this time by DMUs. Note the number of bikes on the platform. Only one platform now has track and this class 158 is on a Hull train. Note the number of bikes has increased a little over the 28 years which separate the two pictures.  This is what a Harrogate train looked like back in 1987. The day I took this the passengers for Harrogate were lucky not to have a pacer dating back to 1987.This is one of the few class 155s which were not made into single car class 153s. Note the next platform is now trackless.

York... the avoiding line.

These views were taken from the footbridge over the freight avoiding lines at York. This view shows the new turntable which was installed when the turning triangle was removed prior to the construction of the new control centre. This is a very rough looking class 56 belonging to British American Railway Services. It has been in store until recently and no money has been spent on its external condition since that time by the look of it. By the amount of black smoke it threw across the local area, nothing much has been done to the engine either. The train is a Tees side to Cardiff loaded scrap metal train. Hope it got there. The loco number is 56 103. Wheels (obviously) outside Freightliner's wagon repair facility alongside the line.
