Only so far in 1987

 In a typical bit of London based thinking the 1977 GN electrification scheme went out as far as Royston (about 70 miles from Kings Cross) but the powers that be obviously did not think it worth going the extra 10 miles to link the wire up with the GE scheme from Liverpool Street to Cambridge. That would have enabled the locals to visit the local centre, Cambridge,  on the new EMUs instead of having to suffer out dated DMUs which ran a shuttle service. After all everyone wanted to go to London but...

These pictures were taken at Royston station in 1987.

    You'd think it would occur to them that people in Cambridge might want to go to London as well...

 When the branch line from Hull to Hornsea was closed in October 1964 the Station building was left to deteriorate. This is what it looked like by late summer 1985. However, it is a Grade 2 listed building so it could not easily be demolished and it was a rather grand building so it was converted to flats, some of which were available for let as self catering accommodation.  These images show the present state of the buildings and area. The area in front of the old station is now part of the Trans Pennine walk. The station house has been made into two flats with the ground floor being holiday accommodation.

 Just a few shots from yesterday.... The two extremes of LNER trains transportation system!! Northern Trains Leeds service arriving. A beautifully turned out class 66 on the daily binliner train. Exactly on time.

  There are very few class 91 diagrams into York these days but what there are are made up of refurbished and reliveried sets. This is the Kings Cross to York which forms the 12.02 stopping service to Kings Cross.  These are the pacer replacements. A great improvement.
